Virtual Gallery Project

Many of our students are in need of a more creative outlet during this pandemic period. I put together student works to be viewed online through our school's website!

Students could submit in any of the three categories and include a sub topic under the category. They presented works by uploading a photo, an MP3 recording or a word document. All creative work must be original or include a reference for the music.

Category 1: Fine Arts

Subtopics: Drawing , Painting, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Photography, etc...

Category 2: Music

Subtopics: Voice, Violin, Piano, Guitar, etc....

Category 3: Literary Arts

Subtopics: English Poetry, English Short Story, Turkish Poetry, Turkish Short Story, etc...

To me this was a great creative outlet and a therapeutic activity that encourages their artistic abilities.

We invited parents, teachers, and students to attend our 'Gallery Opening' once we collected and put all the student work together.

The project required the support of the Turkish Literature, Arts, Music and English Literature departments to proceed.

The Process and Other Details:

The date of the Gallery Opening was set for May 19th in honor of Youth Day in Turkey.

The name of the project was: ‘Shining a Light on Creativity by Işik Students : Our Virtual Gallery in Honor of the 101st Anniversary of May 19th, The Youth Day’

The project was introduced on April 30th in an Instagram post on our school’s Instagram page that I created using Canva. The post included a link and QR code that directed kids to the submissions page.

I prepared a submissions page on Google Forms and included all information I need from kids as well as set boundaries for types of submissions and size.

I also prepared another Instagram Post that shared the details of the Gallery Opening using Canva with a link to the final Gallery.

The final Virtual Gallery event was hosted by me and students who had work in the Gallery were asked to speak and share about their work. The Gallery is still live from last year and a new gallery is planned for this year. We will begin to accept entries on April 23.
